Blue Note Records’ New Spotify App

I am proud to have contributed some work in the form of charts and editorial material to WhoSampled as part of the work they have just done in preparation of legendary jazz label Blue Note’s brand new Spotify app. The app provides an intuitive music discovery journey through the label’s catalogue of more than 70 years of the world’s finest jazz music, from the boogie-woogie sound of the late 1930s to the jazz/hip-hop hybrids of the current decade. Already receiving rave reviews from the like of Rolling Stone, I am very pleased to have played a small part in the delivery of this slick, informative and fun app.

The app’s ‘Blue Break Beats’ section, powered by WhoSampled, allows users to discover Blue Note’s most sampled artists and tracks alongside the artists who have sampled them. The quick intuitive layout allows users to explore the influence of the fantastic sounds of Blue Note legends such as Herbie Hancock, Lou Donaldson and Grant Green on the artists of recent decades, from the underground hip hop of Black Moon to the pop RnB of Destiny’s Child.

Try the app for yourself here!
