Gilles Peterson’s final show on Radio 1

Last night marked the end of an era, Gilles Peterson’s final show on Radio 1, and for some the departure of one of the last credible DJs from the station. The good news is that Gilles will be moving to a new show on BBC Radio 6 Music on Saturdays 3pm til 6pm which of course will also be available on iPlayer. Details to follow.

In the meantime, you can listen again to Gilles’ final show here.

About musicofsubstance

A collector of hip hop, funk, soul, boogie and related beats and jazz based music since the late eighties. Came to prominence as a club DJ through involvement in Substance (one of the UK's largest and longest running hip hop and funk nights) and a 2 year spell as mix DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra. In recent years a steady output of high profile mix albums has allowed me to DJ worldwide. Currently compiling a series of mix albums for the BBE label and producing an album for BBC New Urban Music Bursary award winning 7 piece jazz / soul outfit 'Maylight'.

One Response to Gilles Peterson’s final show on Radio 1

  1. Such a shame that Gilles will be losing the moody, atmospheric 2am live slot. But i guess saturday afternoon is the next logical step on his musical journey. What a way to finish, with Earl Zinger’s ‘Adventures of Peterson’, much love for that tune.
