By the skin of our teeth, the Classic Material 2000 mixtape is ready just in time for the Classic Material 2000 event tomorrow night!
Edition#14 of our monthly mix series pays tribute to the hip hop of the year 2000, the beginning of a new decade and the end of what many consider to be hip hop’s greatest era, the 90s. The year 2000 marked a turning point for the Indie scene with artists such as De La Soul, DJ Premier and others proving to the so called ‘back pack’ fraternity that credibility and club friendly / commercial music could co-exist.
This mix is also a landmark for us here at Classic Material as it marks the end of our year long series of events, the last of which takes place on 17th December 2012 at City Arts and Music Project. This will also be the opening night of our debut exhibition – a celebration of 80s and 90s hip hop design and photography which gives a nice opportunity to round off the year’s events and introduce some new projects for next year.
You can listen to the mix on Mixcloud here or grab yourself a download from the Classic Material website here.
Thank you for supporting the night and these mixes. New projects to come from Classic Material and Rap Music Fan Club in 2012!
